Research and development

The term research and development are no longer just a department or sector in the structure of a company or institution, but rather it is the catalyst for growth, innovation and sustainable progress, as R &D are used to explore new horizons and achieving distinction in industry. R&D sectors are the compass that guides us towards innovation, efficiency and distinction. R&D plays a significant role in vital aspects of process and product development, and enhances the job performance of employees. Therefore, NFB established a R&D sector (the research center) to achieve these objectives and enhance the company's capabilities towards distinction and competition, to be a great experience house in the field of manufacturing fiberboard from sustainable materials, which the world is currently looking forward to. The R&D sector in NFB includes laboratories and a pilot plant, which enables it to achieve innovations in the field of products and the development of processes.

One of the most important objectives of research and development is to develop products and improve their quality, ensuring they meet the highest standards through comprehensive research and innovation, processes, and equipment are developed through practical procedures that include rigorous testing, simulations, and precise control to ensure the efficiency of the produced components and even meet the strict quality standards requirements. Furthermore, cost estimation and effectiveness are achieved by adopting advanced methods to analyze and improve production processes, reduce losses, and maximize resource utilization. This approach not only ensures cost-effective solutions but also contributes to sustainable processes, enhancing the company's competitive advantage in the market.

1-Research project concerning raw material alternatives

One of the most important objectives of R&D is to continuously search for raw materials (lignocellulosic raw materials) as alternatives to be ready for fulfilling our needs at any time. That achieved through studying the physical and chemical properties of raw material to estimate the suitability of these for the manufacture of fiberboard panels, then carrying out several trials to manufacture MDF panels through pilot plant scale, until achieving quality and standard requirements, then testing of physical and mechanical MDF and evaluation the project. Developing processes to suit this material. These research trials included studying the production of fiberboard panels from raw materials such as palm tree by-products such as sorghum stalks, rice stalk, and sesbania trees, and citrus pruning fiber.

2-Research project in resin and additives

Study improving the chemical and physical specifications of resin to improve physical and mechanical properties of MDF, as well as research projects to produce moisture-resistant and fire-resistant wood panels.

3-Development of MDF process

Through carrying out several semi-industrial and industrial trials to develop various stages of the industrial processes for producing fiberboard panels, such as:

  • - A project to study the develop bagasse depithing process
  • - A project to study the treatment of wet stored bagasse

4-Co-operation with scientific institutions, universities and research centers

study of manufacturing of MDF based on date palm frond fiber on co-operation with faculty of engineering, Ain Shams university
Study of microbial effect on bagasse during wet storage on co-operation with faculty of science, South valley University

5-Preparation of technical and economic feasibility studies

Development and renovation of main production line
Feasibility Study for establishing resin plant
Feasibility Study for establishing agricultural wastes recycle plant
Feasibility Study for establishing fuel pellets plant
